The biopsy i had was done in the dermo's office and it involved freezing a small area of my inner thigh (with a needle) where it would be less visible and she took a small amount of the skin with a small knife like tool, and covered it up with a bandaid. It did leave a tiny scar when the skin healed over the small indentation it made in my skin. Didn't hurt a bit. Took about 15 minutes. I guess it depends what part of the body you have the sample of skin removed from. Hope this helps. It took many years and different doctors and finally this dermo who has other patients with it. She said it was the only way to be sure it was Darier's. Then she gave me the news it has no cure! Just control. Seeing her in April to see if she has anything new. She even took pictures of my leg as what I have is called Linear - it is confined to 1/2 of my body. She has passed it on to other dermo's in the city as they meet occasionally and go over unusual cases.
