: Ok everyone, here I am crying on your shoulder...
: I can NOT get a job anymore. The last one I had I lost because the office manager was afraid to share a bathroom
: with me, and she was more important to the company than I was. Before that was a long string of "The customers
: don't like to deal with you" and "The other workers have problems with your 'appearance'".
: I know all the ADA stuff, I know all this is against the law and stuff, but you also know no one says that stuff
: in front of witnesses. Worse, Texas is a right to work state, no one has to give you a reason for your termination.
: They can say, "We no longer needed her" and hire someone else in my place and that's pretty much ok.
: I don't even care about lawsuits or fingerpointing, I just want a job. I am tired of being at home, and REALLY
: tired of being useless.
: I just don't know what to do anymore, the state has actually declared me unemployable, but if I go on disability,
: that's like giving up, and in some cases makes it harder to take a job later. All the temp agencies in the DFW
: area have a file on me, and I know for a FACT that some of them have made a small note in my file that my
: "appearance" is less than desireable, and it's not because of the suit I was wearing.
: I keep going back to college, I attend every free lecture and seminar I can find that pertains to any of the
: fields I have been trained, I read, and I am staying as educated as possible. All of this to no avail.
: So what do I do? I have seen job counselors, professional headhunters who were PAID to get me a job and
: coach me to be employable, the Employment commission, the state Rehab commission, you name it. I am
: at a total loss. So you tell me, what should my next step be, besides moving out of the south, which has been
: the WORST place for discrimination I have ever seen.

Glori,I've just been re-reading about your struggle to find employment.I am absolutely astounded by what you have to say...maybe I'm being naive but I can't imagine so blatant rejection happening here in Australia.I have EHK and have encountered some really minor setbacks but have managed to stay fully employed for 13 years in a professional capacity.

I'm not sure what I can suggest other than hold your head high...and that I am furious on your account!

Cheers, Kate.
