I am currently using Lac Hydrin and I am afraid now more than ever that maybe this may be harmful in the long run. I am trying to get pregnant and am currently undergoing fertility treatments. I don't want this cream to interfere with my chances of becoming a mother. So if anyone has advice please share this with me. The doctors that I have seen either don't know much about my condition (Non bullous CIE) or really are not sure. My dermatologist is not sure either so what do I do? I'll also need your prayers so that I can be a mommy. SofiaIP: Logged |

Sofia - my derm told me when I get pregnant I will have to stop using AHA because for normal skin people they don't use enough for it to become a problem with absorption into the body, but because we use so much of it, it will become a problem. I, too, am going to TTC very soon and just plan on making an appointment to find out what I need to avoid. I've recently been using Ultra Mide 25 (25% urea), which has worked wonders. I do spend a lot of time exfoliating in the bath, but don't seem to need the Dermal Therapy anymore. I don't think urea is a problem, but I will be asking my derm that. Sofia, At FIRST's Kansas City conference, in the women's discussion group, this topic came up. Several women with various forms of ichthyosis who have had children of their own said they never stopped using their AHA creams during their pregnancy (and couldn't have imagined getting through their pregnancy if they did) and seemd to have no ill effects on their babies. I"m hopeful some of them will see this and respond. As far as good medical advice on this issue, I'd give FIRST a call and see if they can refer you to a physician knowledgeable in this specific matter who can give you professional advice beyond what you've already received. I can understand that your baby's well being comes first, but for me personally (and I don't have kids, so take this for whatever its worth), I couldn't function if I had to give up AHAs for 9 months. I don't plan on having children of my own for lots of other reasons, but if I absolutely couldn't use any AHAs the entire term, I'd be completely incapacitated (I think that was the reaction from the ladies at the conference who said they never gave up their normal creams during their pregnancies).
