Hello everyone, I have Ichthyosis (but no idea what type). I have been married for 6 years and am worried about pregnancy and going into labour because of the heat intolerance. As soon as I do the least bit of exercise, for example, my face becomes very red and hot and if I don't stop exercising, I eventually feel faint. I am worried about labour and if I would be putting the baby in danger due to overheating. Did any of the mothers out there have a problem such as this?

I have had 3 children and I also suffer from heat intolerance. To be honest, I never even thought of that being a problem until you brought it up. When I was in labor, I did become warm but a cold wash cloth on my forehead alleviated that, and as soon as the baby was born I was cold (I've heard this is normal and my friends experienced the same thing.) So I don't really think it will be an issue and it should in no way affect the baby. Babies are also usually colder when they are born and sometimes they need to be placed under a heat lamp. I hope this helps, but I never had any trouble that was ichthyosis related while carrying or labouring for my children. ~julene

Did you consider a birthing pool? Many hopitals have them now, and I am sure you could use cool water. It is also more pleasent for your baby and your body.
Hope this helped.
