Hello! This is my first post to the board, but I have been reading it for quite some time. I have found a CURE for my ichthyosis vulgaris, and am excited to share it!

I have had IV since at least the age of 5...my grandfather also had it. Like most of you, I have tried *every* lotion that exists, all different alpha hydroxies, and alternative therepies such as dry skin brushing, salt scrubs, etc. I had also developed a fear of Soap, as that seemed to dry my skin even more. Even with the best therepies, my skin was very dry at best, and *Extremely flaky* and cracking at worst.

Over a year ago I discovered this site and tried one of the products suggested, Dermal Therapy's Alpha Hydroxy High Potency Moisturizer. Well, I was thrilled, as it made my skin SO MUCH BETTER... I had to use it every day, but only once a day was enough...my skin was so soft, but still a little flaky, even with dry skin brushing and salt scrubs being used with the Miracle Lotion, as I now called it. I would say I had been healed 60-70%.

OK, remember when i said I had developed a fear of drying soaps? Well, this past october i returned to cold New YOrk from a week on the beach in Florida...and my skin was flaking off like CRAZY, so I decided to just scrub with these all natural soaps I had, which is when I discovered the second part of my cure:

now, every day i suds up in the shower with these great soaps from Voda Soap. they are made with lots of oils, which is why i think they work...i get really sudsy, and then scrub with a loofah. THEN (important part) when i dry off I SCRUB with a towel (stay in the shower for this) and all the skin peels away! Every time i do it, i think oh, god, look at this mess of skin, this is not going to work...but then i apply the miracle lotion and i look GREAT!! i have been doing this for three months in a cold, dry new york city winter and LITERALLY NOT ONE FLAKE!! my skin is SO SOFT and LOOKS BEAUTIFUL! it has made me so happy, no flakes in my apartment, on my clothes...or on me!

my friend makes voda soap, but this is not a plug for her...i think any high quality natural soap with *lots of oil* would do the trick. but if you want to check out her site it is vodasoap.com, and you can at least check out the ingrediants. its definately the combination of the two products and scrubbing that make the difference. but if i feel lazy i can even skip a couple of days of scrubbing.

please let me know if any of you try this...i would love to have helped someone else end their years of searching. one thing though....this process does not work on my face. both the soap and the lotion cause me to break out...i still have flaking on my face.

good luck!
lisa

I went onto the Voda site and the soaps look pretty good. I like that they contain Shea butter. I have recently used Shea Butter cream on my daughters and it makes their skin so smooth. The problem with using the Shea Butter is that by morning, their skin is dry again. As long as I only use it once in awhile, it has a pretty good effect on their skin. Having it in the soap sounds like a good idea.
My question to you is which soap do you use? There are so many different soaps available on the Voda website.

Thanks,
Angel

Angel, I have used most of the voda soaps to help scrub off the skin...right now i have five of them lined up in my shower, and i just use whichever one fits my mood for the day! i know debbie (the soapmaker) uses a pretty heavy oil base in all of the soaps. i think anise is my favorite, as that is the one i first discovered took off all the skin!

hi liza, this is mariel living in the philippines, though the weather condition here is dry and humid, i still suffer a lot from dryness of my skin worst is the flaking. ive been reading lots of article about this ichtyosis but i get interested on how you wrote about what happened and how you discover this amazing thrill.

i am wondering if you can help me with regards to this product., i did open the web site you mention, but i can not purchase said product becuase mainly i dont have a credit card. i am not saying you do it for me for i can ask some relatives there to get it from me, but if you can just tell me which product is most effective to your skin for me not to waste more money to this one.

i hope you understand what i mean, i live in a third world country and is just living as average person here, so cost is more important to me.

hope you can reply to this immediately.

lots of thanks,

mariel

hi, mariel

i guess i would recommend the anise, but i really feel its the oil base which is so moisturizing...and they all have that. perhaps there is some kind of high quality handmade soap in your country that is easier to get and less expensive? as long as it uses lots of oils i think it would do the trick. definately dont use a commercial soap like dial or any of those brands! they are so drying! you need something that will loosen the skin so you can rub it off after.

good luck!

by the way, voda soaps do last a really long time, just make sure you let them dry when not using them...don't let them sit in a puddle of water!

Hi Lisa, I read with extreme interest your message. This is my first time that I read the board and I found your message. I'm very interested to your CURE because my dream is to have a beautiful and soft skin. Now, I have a question: when you speak about the voda soap, you said that you make a suds, then you scrub it, you use a towel and finally you apply a MIRACLE LOTION. What's this lotion? And after I wanna ask you, if I purchase the voda soap which kind of products you suggest? The natural soap or a particular kind of box sets? Thank you very much!I'll write you when I'll use this products to say about their effects on my skin.
Thanks,
Simo

hi, the lotion is Dermal Therapy's Alpha Hydroxy High Potency available at dermaltherepy.com. and any of the natural soaps work...the ones in the box sets are the same as the ones in the "natural soaps" section....just a whole box of them! good luck...this process worked for me all winter, now that its spring i cant wait to show off my soft skin!

I just wanted to say thank you for recommending this product. I just got the anise today and just had to try it and low and behold the dead skin just kept coming off. For the first time in my life, I actually took a shower and felt like my skin was actually clean. Normally it feels like it has layers and layers of dead skin and creams but this soap actually worked for me. And it smells very nice as well. I too had stayed away from soaps but I will definitely use this. Can't wait to see how my skin looks like in a week of using this soap!!!! I have mild to severe vulgaris and the backs of my legs are the worst. One day of using this and I could totally tell that the backs of my legs looked a lot better. Thanks!!

Hi

So I decided to try these Voda Soaps. I have Ich Vulgaris and I rarely use conventional soaps because they are just way to drying. I found these natural soaps much easier on my skin (actually I don't know why I didn't think of handmade soaps before!). They are beautiful, smell fabulous and I like that they are all natural.

While I didn't experience my skin just peeling off or any kind of "cure" I did think my skin felt much softer after and I didn't have as many flakes! (Maybe the natural ingredients don't strip as much moisture off the skin?)

I will definately keep using these and experimenting with other natural soaps in the future!

I found a lotion that has really helped me a lot and it is OTC. It is a Vaseline lotion with Alpha Hydroxy in it. I have vulgaris and it has really helped loosen the flakes and using a stiff brush before showering, my skin has really been almost flake free.

I also tan every once in a while and that helps.

Howdy, this is my first post and i would just like everyone to know that i'm 20 years old and i've been suffering with ichthyiosis vulgaris my whole life and after reading this post i decided to try Dermal Therapies Alpha Hydroxy lotion. Let me tell you this is the best lotion there is. It has practically cured me. I just put it on in the morning and i'm flake free all day. I can finally wear black for the first time in public and not have to worry if any of my skin flakes are showing on my shirt. I highly recommend this product to anyone.

Josh, is the Dermal Therapies lotion really thick? Most alpha hydroxy lotions I have tried is so thick that I hate the feeling.

I have been using Vaseline Heathy Body Complexion and it goes on great. It also has AH in it.

Hey Chuck, no the lotion isn't thick at all. It looks and feels pretty much like any ordinary lotion and its not too greasy. It really leaves the skin feeling soft and silky. It feels like skin i have never had before. I couldn't find it at any of the local stores here, so i ordered it online at www.dermaltherapies.com. It's a little expensive but the bottles are pretty big and they last a long time. Trust me it is worth the cost. Well its nice to hear from a fellow texan. A nice and humid texas summer is on its way and with this new lotion we should be looking and feeling pretty good.

I too have ordered the anise vodasoap. it arrived yesterday and i thought it would be gradual, but my skin looks better already, a few more times and it will probably be perfect. I cant wait for the lotion, it will be heaven to have normal skin for once in my life.

Hello everybody! I have IV and I found a cure long, long time ago,but it is a little expensive. What you have to do is to live in the country that has two things: summer through the whole year and sea! Is it a big investment for a life time of normal skin? In my experience: NO!!! Through everything I have been through in my life cause of it,the only thing I am focused right now is to move somewhere where my skin can enjoy sun and the sea all the time! And my mind and soul can be at ease!
But if you want lotions here they are: AHA body cream from Artistry,Amway (the skin soaks it immidiatly, and I also noticed that it is salty) or Neutrogena,Norwegian formula for very dry skin, also very affective!

If you find a place with year round summer weather, you don't even need the sea. But watch out for the air conditioning. And it is not really a cure.

Hello,
I am new to this forum and have been reading this thread with great interest. I also have ichthyosis vulgaris, which I believe is hereditary.
Did this combination of Derm. Therapy hydroxy lotion and voda soap helped hereditary ichthyosis too? My question retakes Richar's question some months ago.

Also, are any of you continuing this treatment and is it helping? I live in Spain and don't have much money, so I want to make sure before spending a lot on buying online.

Thank you

Alicia

Hi I am fairly new also my son is only 5 months and probley has Lamellar. I'm sure someone else here will give you a lot better advice, but what I have found that removes the scales is having him soak in sea salt every day for 45 min.
Good luck and like I said someone else here will pobley be able to give you alot better advice.

Just tried Voda soap and please be aware that if you suffer from eczema on top of your Ich this is not for you. They truly smell divine and are probably as wonderful as they seem for some people but they have caused an allergic eczema reaction all over my arms - which is what i get from any soap - i niavely just assumed these were soap free i guess. I can not use soap full stop. it must be a substitute.

I have used Voda Soap about once/twice a week for the past couple of months and it is amazing stuff. I wasn't too sure of it at first as soap normally dries me out really badly, and the first time I used it my skin started feeling really tight in the bath, but then once I got out and dried off & creamed up with shea butter cream my skin was amazing & smooth! There are even times where I can stop using cream on small parts of my body for about a day after bathing with voda soaps!

One trick I found with the soap is to cut it up into smaller pieces (I think I got about 6 slices out of each bar)- I ordered a box of 4 soaps so it's easy to cut them up & store them in the box, that way I can use one small piece for about 2 baths and change to another one when I feel like it without any of the bars drying up or melting away sitting in water by the shower.

I also have eczema on my feet and I haven't found this soap to be a problem - it just goes to show that we are all so similar yet individually we can react to treatments so very differently! As normal it's just a trial and error process to see what works for you!
