Hey moms I thought I would pass this information on to you.I called today to this one company about getting Jordan a cooling vest. They will special make his to fit his size. They said they have a person that makes cooling vest for kids. While I had her on the phone I ask about some of you that have little ones. She said she does'nt recomend babies to wear them. She said it is better worn when there active. So my suggestion is to call your doctors and ask should they have one at a young age.Im going to give you the number to this place I called if you like to get one that will fit your baby you can have them measured and they will make it fit them. She said they dont do it anymore but she is taking my order. So if you would like to have one please get in touch with me and I will call this lady and tell her that my ichthyosis moms are interested.Cause she said the reason why they dont special order them anymore was because some moms was getting upset cause the size was'nt right and they just discontinued them. But the moms was'nt doing the right sizes and thats why it was coming out wrong with the sizes. Also the lady said if you got a small size for the baby it will only cool for 45 mins.So I would'nt want you to pay all that money just for 45 mins and also they will grow out of it fast. The cost of the vest is $129.00 plus shiping which she said was about $7.00 this is the cheapest i have found and the only company that will have the cooling vest fit to there size. And it comes with 2 sets of charging packs. And takes about 6 weeks to get.On there website they had some other cool things to keep them cool. You might want to take a look at it.I hope this helps you moms out alot. There number is 1-877-879-1450 and there website is Heatreliefdepot.com Hugs Kathy [This message has been edited by skittles71 (edited April 03, 2006).] IP: Logged |

This is the company I went through for ours www.techniche-intl.com I have ordered 2 from them now and have been more then happy with both vests. We did pay $100 for a vest and that also included 2 sets of inserts. They too custom make them for children. Maybe they are the same company I don't know. I also had Chandra make one, she posts on here often and in the pockets she made I put those packets you put in the freezer for your lunch boxes. It doesn't last quit as long but works as well and she can make differebt colored ones. She does awesome work. I will have to take a picture of Ryleys and post it so you can see how cute it turned out. No matter which way you go though you will be glad you got one. Kathy and Shauna Thanks for the information. I have been trying to find somewhere to get on for our son. His Dr said we needed to get him one when we go to Mexico. We are going in June and he will be 9 months. I hope one of them will make one for him Since yousaid they dont do it for infants. But he is big. IP: Logged |

Hi Shauna and everyone, Thanks for the info. I'm looking into getting a vest for my six year old son. He has EHK and his school does not have air conditioning. Did your daughter wear it in the classroom too or just outside? He's only in half day kindergarten now and we used neck wraps and spritz bottles. I'm thinking as the weather gets warmer, he would benefit from a cooling vest. Now that he's older, its more difficult to keep him in the house when his older sisters can go out. Also, was it the phase change cooling vest you bought or the evaporative one? Thanks for any help you can provide. Christine quote: IP: Logged |

Ryley would wear it just outside, but her school has air conditioning. If the class room ever was to hot then yes she would keep it on all day. She did keep a water bottle at her desk too. I also bought a fan that the teacher put in the room near Ryley's desk. The lunch room would let me keep her inserts in the freezer and she would go get them when needed. If she ever feels to hot and tired then she is allowed to lay down in the nurses office. Also we bought Ryley's first vest when she was 4 yrs old, so I know techniche can make them pretty small. I belive Ryley's was and extra small. The even custom made the inserts so they were smaller and not so heavy. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Shauna IP: Logged |
