I have scales on my legs. I have had the same kind of scales there since I was born (47 years ago).

This past week I looked at my legs and I thought they were dirty. But they weren't. My scales are changing color. They've gone from pink to very grey.

Is this typical? Why does this happen?

Peace,
Mary

Hi Mary,

without knowing what kind of icthyosis you have, I couldn't say. Mine have changed color a bit over time. For the most part, they are predominately white, but for some reason as I've aged, the ones on my legs look grey until they lift off, and no, it's not 'cause I'm dirty either.

If there's any pain or discomfort in those areas with the color change, or some odor change, then get yourself in to the doctor and have it checked out, or do that simply if you want some professional reassurance. We can all do with that reassurance once in a while.
