Hi, I am Daniella and have a mild form of ichtyosis Vulgaris. I used to shower everyday till somebody suggested to me (a year ago) that it might not be so good because with showering you rinse of your natural skinfats/oils. So I decided to stop showering everyday and do it every other day.
But what happens now is that on my arms, back and chest I get breakouts of spots (sort of acne). Could it be that the deadskin cloggs the pores? Would showering everyday be better? It is probably a subject that's been discussed a lot of times but is there anybody else with the same experience?
Thanks

I don't know much about the break outs or the shower washing your bodies natural oils off, but it just makes Ryly feel more comfy. She loves her baths becuse she says it makes her skin feel a bit better. I just let her soak till she gets board with it. Some days i swear she would sleep in the bath if it was possible. I guess I would just do what felt better to you and what you think helps most. Sorry I am not of more help.

Daan,

I know exactly how you feel. Water does dry your skin out even more. But instead of skipping a day, just take a quick shower each day. This is a reasonable compromise.

I only soap up certain parts of the body---arm pits, groin, and feet and hair. Just use water to rinse out the rest.

My derm told me 10 minutes or less. For the first 10 minutes you hydrate then after that it starts to have an opposite affect. I don't follow that rule very well because I am like Riley. I should be a fish. Above my tub is a really cool pic of a mermaid sitting in a bath tub and the caption is "Waiting for the tide to come in" That is me. So you might try as Promiseland suggested short not too hot showers with a mild moisturizing soap. Then use your favorite moisturinzer afterwards.

Also, try not to shower before you have to spend a lot of time in air-conditioning. If you work in air-conditioning, don't shower in the morning before work; shower at night before you go to bed.

Dear Daan

I heard as well that (long) showers tend to dry you out but that it also depens on the soap you use.
Personally I take showers or bath every day (and I avoid any kind of situation where I can not). I do not like applying lotion or cream if I had no shower beforehand and due to some primary / high school experiences I am doing anything to avoid any kind of possible (bad) body or lotion smell. When showering I am using a soap which is alkali-free and fat-replenishing and with a pH of 5.5 and that works great for me.

Hope this helps.

All the best,
Sofie
