Hi! I always had a form of Ichtyosis Vulgaris, but in the beginning the doctor confused it with extremely dry skin. So you can imagine the lotions weren't good...
During the last years my condition is much worse than before. Especially my face. It is dry and flaming red in the morning. They who have the same problems know what I mean... So please help!!! I went to a dermalogist but he gave me some hydrating lotion and a creme with cortizones in it. Not at all good said my normal doctor...
So I went to an other one, but she didn't help me much uptill know...
They just don't have much experience with the disease. So if you have good advice or experience please pass it to me. I think that only the people who have it know what is the best. So good formulas, lotions, cremes, etc. are more than welkom!!!
Already thanks to everyone!!!

Hi Bob,

I live in the US, and I have lamellar ichthyosis and therefore don't have tips about how to deal with ichthyosis vulgaris. However, I would recommend you pick the largest hospital you can think of in your country, preferably a hospital where a lot of research is done, and write to them, especially putting the letter to the attention of the dermatology department. Tell them what kind of ichthyosis you have, what area you're in, and ask if they know of any doctors near you that might be able to help.

As far as suggestions on how to treat your skin, I'm sure there are other folks on this board who can help with that. We just need to keep in mind that focusing on brand names doesn't help, we need to discuss specific ingredients that you can use.

Keep writing on the board, we'll help out however we can.

Hey bob I'm also a bob with vulgaris... I've started getting it on my face as well... I hate shaving I get it in my eyebrows too. I havent really been able to do much about it that has worked effectivly. Lac-Hydrin lotion makes your skin look like plastic everything else makes your face look shiney.. I usually just scrub with cetiphil soap then put some Vasiline lotion on my face.

Hello Bob and Bob
As for my own personal experience, I prefer the stronger acid creams. I have tried the urea acids and the glycollic acids, but they seem to be very weak in taking the scales off and helping with itching. The only cream I use is Lachydrin 12% lactic acid. Many of the companies are now mixing the alpha hydroxy acids. In a post in the vulgaris/X linked section, Mia Mcneal posts she couldnt find a cream strong enough to help with her vulgaris skin. Her doctor prescribed a mixture of lactic acid and salicyllic acid and that seemed to help her the best.I think with our type of ichthyosis, it is by trial and error that we find a cream which works best for us. If you have time, check out the posts in the vulgaris/X linked section.Take care and by for now.
Sincerely,
Les

Hello Bob I also have Vulgaris Ichyosis. Or the scaly skin type. My form is mild, but however I use some products that work preety good with me.

Dermal Therapy Alpha Hydroxy lotion ( This is my favorate product. It has 10% lactic acid and 10%urea, and some other stuff that makes the body feel good. They also give a discount too. This one also has a 30 day money back gaurantee.

PDS Cream Extra strength. This stuff actually makes me feel good :-) ( Second Best Cream.)

Amlactin 12% used with Ultramide 25(%25 urea)(this is my 3rd best lotion

Here are links to lotions I used.
http://www.neostrata.com/ they give F.R.I.S.T members a good discount
www.dermaltherapy.com give a discount also to people with scaly skin type.

Amlactin You can buy this almost at any online or retail pharmacy. you can also get Ultra mide 25 from here also. I use this product on top of the amlactin lotion to help keep my skin moist. http://www.advancerx.com
